I remember visiting Venice with my husband in 2004, our first time to Italy together. As we stood in the Piazza San Marco and watched the sun set over the lagoon in a ridiculously pink sky we both felt the vibe that this was the city of gay love. 20 years later, Clive helps explain why we felt such a connection to the soul of that city.

This was truly a dream cast! Just such great people singing this stunning music that's challenging in all the right ways. Performing Alcina at @seattleopera was a pleasure, especially with this talented crew of colleagues on and behind the stage. (Ruggiero has been a bucket-list role and I'm so happy I'll get to perform it at a couple more places upcoming.)
And, I’m really grateful to have been conducted with such sensitivity by a former singer who is now on the podium, @brandesmusic. She gets it and knows how to support us to sing this music beautifully. I'm sad it's already over but happy that our run was a big success!

Premiere is tonight! It’s been an immense pleasure working with this amazing cast and crew at the Staatsoper Hamburg! We’ve been delving deep into some wonderfully unusual and special music and bringing it to life on stage in a beautifully collaborative way, including video, intriguing avant garde costumes, and electronic audio effects. There’s mud, body parts strewn across stage, and walls that breathe and move. It’s an intense story of transformation and I’m so thankful to be a part of it with my super talented friends and colleagues and Maestro Nagano on the podium. Not to mention everyone working behind the scenes to pull it all together.

Big news - here I come Hamburg! In a couple of wee

Big news - here I come Hamburg! In a couple of weeks I head back to Germany to perform in another contemporary opera. About this same time a year ago I was in Munich to sing a crazy modern work - then I was an angel and this time I'll be a lover. I’m singing Adonis in the composer Salvatore Sciarrino's take on the Venus and Adonis myth. It's a world premiere and while the music is pretty challenging, it’s also filled with whimsy and humour. It’s a fantastic cast with Kent Nagano on the podium and I’m super excited to work with the director Georges Delnon for the first time. Also, I think I just ate my last cookie until June 🍪😬🍪…I haven't seen the costumes yet, but I’m assuming Adonis has to have abs!!
